Denise Michelle Harris is a national best selling author. Her gripping, amusing and inspirational inaugural novel "Sweet Bye-Bye" earned its place on the Amazon.com Top-seller List only two weeks after its debut and also found a home among Walden Books African American Best Sellers.
Born and raised in Stockton, California, Harris earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication from California State University, Hayward and Masters Degree in Creative Writing from New College of California.
Prior to writing, Harris was a Christian preschool teacher. She has also held executive advertising positions with ANG Newspapers, San Jose Mercury News and The Weather Channel —each having honored her with awards and recognitions.
She has been a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. since 1996, and served as one of its first chapter Connection Committee Chairpersons. Additionally, Harris was named among Who's Who in America in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
Book tours with "Sweet Bye-Bye" have taken Harris to numerous cities throughout the continental United States to include Miami, FL Detroit, MI, Little Rock, AR, Seattle, WA, Portland, OR and Stockton, Sacramento and San Jose, CA. She has also presented her book to her fans and readers in Canada and Alaska. She has appeared on the WB Bay Area affiliate’s Gospel HouseTelevision Show and an untold number of interviews on radio stations throughout the country.
National and local publications have featured Harris and her works. They include such revered pubs as Black Issues Book Review,Essence Magazine, CityFlight Newsmagazine, Contra Costa Times, The Stockton Record, and the Atlanta Journal Constitution's “Fall Celebration of Books.”
In August 2005, Harris coordinated and presented a benefit she titled "The Sweet Bye-Bye Clothing Drive." This fundraiser received donations scoring over 200 articles of women’s clothing and accessories — including business-style suits, trousers, dresses, hats and belts — to benefit the Alameda County Welfare-to-Work Program and The Society of St. Vincent De Paul.
